The Le Moyne College women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat on Tuesday, with both goals arriving in the second half against St. Bonaventure.
Defensive Highlights and Future Outlook
Junior goalkeeper Mikayla McPheron, a native of Rome, New York, turned in a career-high eight saves, ranking as the second-most stops of the season for the Lancers and keeping the game within reach.
St. Bonaventure struck first in the 60th minute when Liana Tata converted a penalty kick, and the lead was doubled in the 83rd minute as Ava Dimperio finished a play set up by Ava Reybitz.
Despite the setback, Le Moyne generated several chances, including a first-half shot from sophomore forward Kaitlyn Gilhooly of Chicopee, Massachusetts, and a second-half effort by freshman Emma Sousa of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts that tested the Bonnies' defense.
Freshman midfielder Lucia DeVito of Gansevoort, New York, added two attempts, while junior defender Logan Cookinham of Poland, New York, saw a shot drift wide in the 79th minute, underscoring the team's persistent attacking intent.
The Lancers are scheduled to return to action on August 30, when they travel to face Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, New Jersey, at noon, hoping to rebound from the narrow loss.
With a roster that includes players from across New York and Massachusetts, the team looks to translate its defensive grit and offensive spark into a positive result against their next opponent.
