The Kansas City Roos Women's Soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat on the road against Creighton on Thursday evening, slipping to 0-3-1 in the early season.
Head Coach Jess Smith praised the squad's execution despite a shuffled lineup forced by limited available players, noting that the team kept the game tight and created several chances.
Creighton struck first in the 18th minute, capitalising on a defensive lapse that left the Roos trailing for the remainder of the match. Goalkeeper Hayes Fitzgerald made a season‑high five saves, while midfielder Kaitlyn Edwards logged a shot on goal in the opening half.
Defenders Olivia Platt, Kinsley Smith, Ella Reyling and Abigail Chaddock joined Edwards in a back line that held firm for much of the contest, conceding only the solitary goal. Chaddock also tested the Creighton keeper with a first‑half effort that missed the target.
The Roos earned two corners in the first half and pressed for an equaliser in the dying moments, winning a corner that produced a close chance that ultimately fell short. Fitzgerald’s five‑save performance was a bright spot, but the team will need to convert its offensive pressure into goals as it prepares for a showdown with the No. 17‑ranked Kansas squad.
