Santa Clara's women's soccer team posted a 1-0 victory over UC Davis on Thursday, a result that pushed head coach Jerry Smith into second place on the all‑time Division I women's soccer coaching win list with 571 wins.
The decisive strike came in the ninth minute when sophomore forward Lexie Douglass converted a pass from Adee Goulden and Addie Whitehouse, sparking celebration among the Broncos' bench.
Between the lines, the Santa Clara defense held UC Davis to just two shots on goal, with goalkeeper Piper Wilkison making four saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Offensively, the Broncos generated five shots on target, including contributions from Kennedy Schoennauer and Jacey Martinez, and earned 11 corner kicks, yet were unable to extend the lead.
The second half saw a flurry of attempts, highlighted by Lisette Gregoris' three shots and the persistent pressure from Lakelee Perkins and Sydney Bushman, but the score remained unchanged.
