On a Thursday night under the Atlantic Coast Conference banner, the High Point University women's soccer team faced off against NC State in a tightly contested match that ended in a 3-0 loss.
A Night Marked by Defensive Grit and Set-Piece Challenges
Head Coach Aaron McGuiness praised his squad's effort, noting that the Panthers applied solid defensive pressure and created several chances, even as they were undone by NC State's set-piece execution.
The Wolfpack struck first when Jade Bordeleau converted a penalty kick in the 37th minute, opening the scoring and shifting momentum.
Early in the contest, sophomore forward Sophia Redner and midfielder Sabba Haghgoo tested the NC State backline with a series of shots that kept the game competitive.
Between the posts, goalkeeper Nylah Mirshafiei played the full 90 minutes, making six saves and producing a fingertip stop at the 84th minute that kept the Panthers within striking distance.
The final blow came when Carly Montgomery capitalized on a corner kick in the 81st minute, sealing the 3-0 result for NC State.
Looking ahead, the Panthers will travel to face Elon University on Sunday, August 30, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. in Elon, North Carolina.
