Wildcats Draw First Blood
The Red Storm traveled to face New Hampshire University on Thursday night, only to see their perfect start to the season dissolve in a tightly contested match that ended 2‑1 in favor of the Wildcats.
New Hampshire opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Miguel Soto Gonzalez received a pass from Xahvi DeRoza and, with Cabot McLaren's assist, curled a shot past the St. John's keeper to put the visitors ahead.
A Dominant but Unrewarded Assault
Despite outshot the Wildcats 14‑8, the Red Storm struggled to convert chances, managing just a single goal before halftime and sending 11 of their 14 attempts into the final 45 minutes.
Xavi Abeijon led the offensive charge with four shots, while Luca Fargnoli added three, and both Travis Thompson and Brage Birkelund Eie contributed two each, highlighting a collective effort that ultimately fell short.
Thompson's First Collegiate Goal
The deadlock was broken early in the second half when junior Travis Thompson struck his first collegiate goal, leveling the score and igniting a surge from the Red Storm.
Thompson also provided an assist, linking up with a teammate for the fifth goal of the season for St. John's, underscoring his growing playmaking role.
UNH Regains the Lead
Just minutes later, Graham Dougald restored the Wildcats' advantage after a quick move orchestrated by Lukas Kuca, leaving St. John's to chase the game in the dying stages.
The final whistle confirmed a 2‑1 victory for New Hampshire, marking the Red Storm's first loss of the campaign.
St. John's will look to rebound when they host No. 13 Hofstra on Tuesday night, a match that will be streamed on ESPN+ and open to fans free of charge.
