A Court Reborn in Buhangin
The community impact initiative STARCARES, backed by the global brokerage firm STARTRADER, has finished a comprehensive renovation of the basketball court at Communal Elementary School in Buhangin, Davao City. The project, completed in recent weeks, has turned a cracked and uneven surface into a modern, safe facility that now accommodates a wide range of activities.
Serving roughly 20,000 people — including 2,000 learners, 72 staff members, 1,600 parents and 16,000 nearby residents — the upgraded court has become more than a sports venue. It now hosts graduation ceremonies, award presentations and school assemblies, while also providing a gathering place for neighborhood meetings and celebrations.
Principal Nelson Sepe Lubguban Jr. described the transformation as a turning point for the school, noting that the new surface eliminates safety hazards and creates a proper environment for both physical education and community events. "The court is now a place where our students can learn, play and grow without fear," he said.
STARCARES designed the renovation with long‑term community use in mind, ensuring that the space meets practical needs for students, families and the wider Buhangin population. The initiative is part of a broader global strategy that has already seen similar infrastructure upgrades in Vietnam, Thailand and Nigeria.
Beyond financial markets, STARTRADER’s "Where Tomorrow’s STARS Begin" campaign underscores a commitment to social responsibility. The company, regulated by authorities such as the CMA, ASIC, FSCA, FSA and FSC, emphasizes a client‑first philosophy that extends to supporting underserved communities worldwide.
