A season built on chemistry
The Lincoln‑Sudbury field hockey program enters the new campaign with a clear focus on chemistry and leadership. Coach Vicky Caburian, now in her 28th season, emphasizes that the team’s strength lies not just in individual talent but in the way the players have grown up together, sharing experiences from club teams to high school competition.
Eleven seniors have been appointed to a captains’ council, a departure from the traditional single‑captain model. This council is designed to foster community, reduce leadership conflicts, and distribute responsibility across the squad, creating a more inclusive environment for decision‑making.
Key players with deep roots
Among the standout athletes is Elise Cecere, a returning Globe All‑Scholastic selection who will attend Providence. Cecere, alongside Isabelle Waugh (Tufts) and Sabrina Tibbert (New Hampshire), forms the core of a group that has been together since eighth grade on the Strikers club team. Their long‑standing bond translates into seamless on‑field coordination and a shared understanding of each other’s strengths.
The chemistry extends beyond the field. Avery Acquaviva, who will play lacrosse at Penn State, describes the squad as a sisterhood, highlighting the lifelong friendships that have developed over years of competition. Madison Porter, headed to Indiana, and goalie Kaitlin Page, who will attend McDaniel College, round out a roster that blends athletic ambition with personal camaraderie.
Goals beyond last year’s semifinal
Last season the Warriors finished 13‑3‑3, only to see their run end in a shootout loss to Winchester. The disappointment served as a catalyst, motivating the team to target a deeper tournament run this year. The coaching staff and players alike stress the importance of raising their hockey IQ, sharpening tactical awareness, and maintaining a balance between competitive drive and social cohesion.
The ultimate objective is to create a legacy team that not only advances far into the postseason but also sets a standard for future cohorts. By leveraging the experience of seven college‑bound seniors and the unified leadership of the captains’ council, Lincoln‑Sudbury hopes to translate its strong chemistry into sustained success on the scoreboard.
