A Strategic Addition to the Orange Staff
Matt June has been appointed to lead the Syracuse men’s basketball program as its new director of strength and conditioning, a role that places him at the heart of the team’s physical development.
June’s journey to Syracuse traces back to his contributions at Siena, where he was instrumental in guiding the Saints to an NCAA Tournament berth and served as the strength and conditioning coach for longtime assistant Gerry McNamara over the past two seasons.
During his tenure at Siena, June helped transform a program that had won only four games in the 2023‑24 campaign into the 2026 MAAC Tournament champions, a turnaround that underscored his ability to design effective training regimens under pressure.
His coaching résumé includes stints at the College of St. Rose, where he implemented a long‑term training model for 18 teams, and at Athletes Warehouse, a private performance facility where he oversaw all programming and developed strength plans for a diverse clientele.
June’s academic background blends a bachelor’s degree in fitness development (2012) and a master’s in exercise science (2014) from SUNY Cortland, where he also captained the varsity baseball team and earned two‑time All‑Conference honors.
Certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine, June brings a blend of academic rigor and practical experience, having also created a digital training platform during the COVID‑19 pandemic to keep athletes engaged remotely.
In addition to his primary duties with the men’s basketball team, June will extend his expertise to the women’s program, reflecting the university’s commitment to holistic athletic development.
