Westhill Football Looks to Rebuild After a Turbulent Season

Key returners and a healthy quarterback aim to turn the tide as the Vikings face a demanding schedule

A New Chapter for the Vikings

Coach Owen Sandoval enters his fourth season at the helm with a career record of 4‑26, but the veteran sideline leader believes this year could finally break the streak of disappointment that has plagued the program.

The defense, which struggled mightily in the previous campaign, returns a wealth of experience. Starters Jervanee Mason, Saneil Bremmer, Zachary Kornfeld, Zachary Jeanty and Dave Dominguez are all back, giving the unit continuity and a chance to build on the limited successes of last year.

At quarterback, Pedro Giglio returns fully healthy after an injury that cut his sophomore season short. His presence under center adds a layer of stability that the Vikings sorely needed.

Home games will be played at Boyle Stadium on the campus of Stamford High School, a venue that has witnessed many of the team’s most memorable moments over the decades.

The schedule is a blend of conference and non‑conference matchups, featuring a rematch with Bridgeport Central — a team the Vikings have not beaten since 2017. Other opponents include Staples, Wilbur Cross/Career, Wilton, Harding, St. Joseph, Cheney Tech/Windham Tech, Norwalk, McMahon and Stamford, promising a rigorous test for the squad.

On the offensive side, seniors Michael Acocella and Dave Dominguez will share running‑back duties behind returning starter Anthony Bak, adding depth and versatility to the backfield.

While the road ahead remains challenging, the combination of seasoned defenders, a healthy quarterback and a refreshed schedule offers a glimmer of optimism for Westhill as they look to rewrite the narrative of the past few seasons.
