The University of Alaska Fairbanks announced today that guard James Bodily has signed with the Alaska Nanooks men's basketball program, adding a proven scorer and experienced hand to the roster for the upcoming 2026 campaign.
A Sharpshooter With a Proven Track Record
Bodily arrives after two seasons in the Cascade Collegiate Conference where he shot 49.4 percent from the floor and 41.4 percent beyond the arc, draining 75 three‑pointers while maintaining an 85.5 percent free‑throw rate. In his breakout year he averaged 14.2 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, highlighted by a 30‑point, seven‑rebound effort in the NAIA National Tournament against LSU‑Alexandria.
Coach Frank Ostanik praised the guard's scoring efficiency, noting that Bodily's ability to stretch defenses and finish at the rim will diversify the Nanooks' offensive schemes. "James brings a level of confidence and precision that complements our existing talent," Ostanik said in the announcement.
From Idaho Roots to Fairbanks
A native of Bancroft, Idaho, Bodily honed his game at North Gem High School, capturing a state championship before embarking on his collegiate journey. His background as a disciplined student‑athlete also earned him NAIA Daktronics Scholar‑Athlete honors and a spot on the 2025‑26 CCC All‑Conference First Team.
The addition of Bodily aligns with the program's broader strategy of recruiting players who can contribute immediately both on and off the court. With the team eyeing a deeper run in the upcoming season, the guard's veteran presence is expected to accelerate the Nanooks' development and fan engagement.
