The Superior Spartans have been crowned the first ever Bound Wisconsin Football Team of the Week, a distinction decided by a statewide vote on BoundWisconsin.com.
A Turnaround After 29 Games Without a Win
Their 58‑28 triumph over Eau Claire North not only delivered the program’s first victory since September 30, 2022, but also signaled a dramatic shift in momentum for the team.
Senior running back Maxton Luzaich was the catalyst, rushing for seven touchdowns and amassing 304 yards, a performance that left opponents and fans alike in awe.
Coaching Excellence Recognized
Coach Travis Wilson, who has guided the program for several seasons, was recognized earlier this year in Coach & AD Magazine’s 40 Under 40 list and received the 2015 Dave McClain Distinguished Service Award from the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association.
Wilson’s leadership extends beyond the football field; he serves on the executive boards of both the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association and the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association, and he was inducted into the Richland Center High School Hall of Fame in 2023.
The vote tallied 4,590 responses, with Superior collecting 1,546 votes compared to Racine Case’s 1,357, underscoring the community’s enthusiasm for the team’s resurgence.
Looking ahead, the Spartans aim to build on this momentum as they prepare for the next matchup, hoping to translate early success into a sustained winning streak.
