A Defensive Resurgence
The Clarkson University men’s soccer program, known for its stingy defense, is back in the Liberty League playoffs for the first time since the 2019 title game, a milestone that has energized the campus and the surrounding community.
Head coach Carter Lincoln, now in his third season, continues to steer the team with a philosophy built around discipline and organization. Assisted by Jonah Stekly, Demba Ba, and Daniel Medina, Lincoln’s staff has maintained a defensive record that has seen the team concede fewer than one goal per game over the past three years, a statistic that underscores the program’s consistency.
While the 2025 campaign marked the lowest winning percentage in the four‑year span, the roster remains deep. Seniors Parker Gamble, Dylan Jasey, and Jay Jezioro will provide leadership, but the bulk of the impact will come from a junior class that has already logged significant minutes. Returning All‑Star forwards Paul Rolland and Josh Baraka, midfielder Brody Frankowski, and sophomore standouts such as Juan Pestarino, Alper Celik, Jack Grace, Zach Ruthfield, and Joel Alvarez are expected to anchor the attack. Freshmen, including the 17 newcomers, add further depth.
Goalkeeping duties will be shared among sophomores Sam Robertson and Ben Sandoval, as well as transfer Ian Burgos, who together aim to preserve the unit’s reputation for shutouts. The blend of experienced veterans and youthful energy positions the team as a formidable contender as the playoffs approach.
