A legacy in the making
Uxbridge High’s field hockey program has become synonymous with excellence, having captured five straight state championships and now eyeing a sixth in the 2026 season. The Spartans’ recent dominance, highlighted by an undefeated 23‑0‑0 campaign in 2025, sets a high bar for the upcoming year.
Head coach and senior captains have built a regimen centered on sprint drills and conditioning to sharpen stamina and maintain intensity throughout full‑game battles. The physical preparation, they say, is as much about forging grit as it is about honing skill.
Four senior leaders — Aubrey Bouchard, Maddie Cammuso, Addie Blood and Brooklyn Kaferlein — are slated to steer the team’s offensive and defensive strategies. Their contributions last season were pivotal: Bouchard’s 29 goals, Blood’s 9‑12‑21 assist line, Kaferlein’s 9‑5‑14 production and Cammuso’s lockdown defense limited opponents to just eight goals all year.
From seniors to new leaders
The transition from the graduating class that included Gilmore, Amelia Blood, Julia Okenquist and Julianna Casucci to a new cadre of leaders is a focal point for the program. While the departing seniors left a legacy of Division 1 commitments — Blood to Wake Forest, Okenquist to Holy Cross and Casucci to New Hampshire — the returning veterans are tasked with preserving that standard.
Junior Ava Rosborough has already committed to Providence, adding depth to the midfield and signaling a promising pipeline of talent. The coaching staff emphasizes that rankings, such as the current No. 3 spot in the New England Region High School Top 20, are secondary to the team’s collective work ethic.
Uxbridge’s recent tournament run was equally impressive, outscoring five opponents 36‑0, capped by a 3‑0 victory over Sandwich in the Division 3 final. That performance reinforced the notion that the Spartans are not only resilient but also capable of dominating under pressure.
Looking ahead
With the preseason expectations set high, the Spartans remain focused on teamwork, conditioning and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Their ambition to surpass Watertown’s record of nine consecutive titles drives every drill and every practice session as the 2026 campaign unfolds.
