Golf Team’s Freshman Leads Charge
The Somersworth High School boys soccer squad opened its season in spectacular fashion, routing Inter‑Lakes 4‑0 in a Division III contest on Tuesday night. Freshman forward Dillon Murgatroy stole the spotlight with a hat trick, while midfielder Tyler Runions added a goal and two assists from Harun Karim helped orchestrate the attack.
Goaltender Lincoln Godzik turned in a clean sheet, making five saves to preserve the shutout. The victory set an energetic tone for the team and highlighted the depth of talent on the roster.
In the same week, the Dover High School girls soccer team posted a dominant Division I win. Hannah Calhoun delivered a three‑goal performance, and Molly Angers contributed two goals. Six other players — Mya Kageleiry, Ella Deroy, Kate Daley, Lauren Lagasse, Kate Zbikowski and Riley Newbury — each found the net, while Scarlett Gray earned the clean sheet in goal.
St. Thomas Aquinas’ golf team also celebrated a victory, defeating Souhegan, Timberlane and Plymouth by a team score of 197. Freshman Nick Shaheen led the way with a 2‑over‑par 38, and the supporting cast of Ryan Allard, Jack Weigold, Finn Perry, Cooper Coate, Kendall Wishart, Griffin Rendall and others posted scores in the 39‑45 range.
The early successes across soccer and golf underscore a vibrant athletic season for the Seacoast region. Coaches are praising the blend of youthful talent and seasoned leadership that promises more exciting matchups in the weeks ahead.
