Golden Knights Prepare for Title Defense
Gannon University’s men’s basketball program has cemented its place among the nation’s elite after capturing the 2025‑26 NCAA Division II championship with a 34‑3 record. The Golden Knights enter the 2026‑27 campaign as the defending champions, a status that brings both prestige and a new set of expectations.
The schedule, released this week, is a gauntlet of travel and competition. Highlights include a trip to Lakeland, Florida, for the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic, where Gannon will meet two 2026 NCAA Tournament qualifiers, and a Thanksgiving showdown at the 41st Gary Miller Classic back home in Erie.
A Schedule Packed with Challenges
The Knights will open the season with a series of road tests, including contests against Central Missouri, the Central Region semifinalists from last year, and Point Loma, the West Region runner‑up. Both programs reached the Sweet 16 in 2026, promising high‑stakes matchups early in the year.
Seven of the first eight games will be played at the Highmark Events Center in Erie, giving the team a familiar home‑court advantage while they adjust to the rigors of the road. The regular season will close with a home finale against Indiana University of Pennsylvania before the squad heads to the Atlantic Regional.
