Baylor University is bringing back a piece of its gridiron heritage with the return of the Bear Bell for the 2026 football season, a ritual that first rang out in 1972 under Hall of Fame coach Grant Teaff.
Reviving a Campus Icon
The revamped bell will travel with mascot Bruiser, who will ride it onto the field and strike it after every Bears touchdown, while the sound will also mark the start of the Bear Walk that leads fans into McLane Stadium.
A fresh design, crafted with the help of Sigma Chi and Baylor Student Activities, will debut alongside the tradition, giving the iconic instrument a modern look while preserving its historic resonance.
The first public showcase arrives on September 12, 2026, when the Bears open their season against Prairie View A&M, a game that will also serve as the launch point for ticket sales across the schedule.
Fan Experience Transformed
Season tickets and single‑game passes are now on sale, offering fans a chance to experience the revived ritual live and keep a tradition alive for a new generation of supporters, while university officials say the bell will help bridge generations of alumni and current students.
