The Florida Gulf Coast University women's soccer squad concluded the previous campaign with an 11‑5‑2 record, a performance that earned them the top seed in the ASUN Tournament, only to see their run halted in the first round.
Among the standouts was midfielder Erika Zschuppe, who ranked among the nation’s leading goal‑scorers with 21 tallies, and whose departure in the offseason leaves a sizable offensive void.
Coach Jim Blankenship says the team has responded by adding six new players to a core of 18 returning athletes, including three transfers, creating a deeper and more versatile roster.
Building Chemistry Ahead of a New Season
Blankenship emphasizes that chemistry and leadership will be the foundation of the season, noting that a welcoming environment and mentorship are already taking shape within the locker room.
Sophomore forward Keira Morgan, who contributed two goals and seven points as a freshman, is eager to expand her offensive role, while senior forward Maya Henley Buisan, a native of Spain, brings international experience and serves as a mentor to the newcomers.
The Eagles open the season with a demanding non‑conference slate, traveling to face opponents at Pickering Field, Florida International and Florida Atlantic, a schedule Blankenship believes will sharpen the team for the ASUN Tournament.
With the lessons of last year’s early exit fresh in mind, the coaching staff and players are focused on turning depth and cohesion into results that could finally deliver a stronger tournament showing.
