The St. Henry boys soccer program celebrated a milestone week in mid-August, earning recognition as the Team of the Week for the period spanning August 17 through 23. The honor came immediately after the team secured the 9th Region All "A" championship, a feat that capped a series of dominant performances on the field.
A Week of Dominant Victories
The squad opened the stretch with an 8-0 triumph over Holy Cross, followed by a 5-1 win against Newport Central Catholic. The momentum carried into the tournament final, where a solitary penalty conversion by Cooper Gastright broke a scoreless deadlock and delivered a 1-0 victory over Beechwood. Goalkeeper Landon Schuler preserved the clean sheet, underscoring the team’s defensive solidity.
All-Tournament honors were bestowed upon Landon Schmidt, Nik Maher and Connor List, highlighting the breadth of talent across the roster. Gastright’s clutch performance not only secured the championship but also earned him the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award, a distinction that has propelled the team into the broader fall sports awards conversation.
Scholarship Implications and Future Recognition
Beyond the immediate trophy, the championship grants the team eligibility for the Team of the Season award, which carries a $500 scholarship earmarked for a selected athlete. The school may also receive an additional $500 scholarship at year’s end if the team captures the overall Team of the Year honor. Nominations and voting for these fall sports accolades remain open through November, with the eventual winners slated to be considered for the prestigious Team of the Year vote in June.
The recognition reflects a collective effort that blended offensive firepower, defensive discipline and individual brilliance. As the team basks in the spotlight, the community looks forward to seeing how this early success translates into sustained performance and further honors for the players and the program.
