A Fresh Start for the Terriers
The Boston University field hockey squad opened its 2026 campaign in convincing fashion, routing Merrimack 7-2 on Friday night at New Balance Field. The win not only set a positive tone for the season but also introduced fans to a revamped offensive attack under first‑year head coach Sarah Shute.
Shute’s debut as head coach ended in a satisfying victory, as the team executed a balanced game plan that combined aggressive forechecking with quick transitions. The performance gave the new coaching staff an immediate boost of confidence as they look to build on this momentum.
Scoring was spread across the roster, with seniors Alex Purcell and Bella Bergner each netting two goals. Sophomore Lucy Johnson found the back of the net for the first time in her Terrier career, while freshman Jenna Cook broke onto the scene with a goal just under two minutes into play. Graduate students Maddie Hudson and Caroline O'Brien also contributed to the offensive outburst.
