The 2026 field hockey campaign got off to a thrilling start for Hofstra as the Pride edged Rider 2-1 in their opening matchup. Freshman forward Malena Bertone, making her collegiate debut, found the back of the net twice, including a decisive strike on a penalty corner, to stake the team to an early lead.
Hofstra’s offense continued to press, outshot the opposition 11‑5 in the final quarter and shut out Rider for the entire second half. Goaltender Luci Hollister delivered a career‑saving penalty stroke save that kept the lead intact, while Jade Regnart turned away five shots, five of them in the 56th minute, preserving the narrow advantage.
