On a crisp Saturday morning in Fairhaven, the Mariner Youth Soccer community gathered to unveil a new memorial space called Maddie’s Circle, a quiet corner of the field dedicated to the memory of Madelyn Eitas, an 11‑year‑old who died earlier this year while on a ski trip in Utah.
Remembering a Young Star
Friends, teammates and family members stood together as the organization’s leadership cut a ribbon, revealing picnic tables and an Adirondack chair arranged to invite reflection. The setting, designed with Madelyn’s easygoing spirit in mind, offers a place for anyone who wishes to pause and remember the girl who brought humor and kindness to every practice.
Becky Eitas, Madelyn’s mother, spoke about the ache of her daughter’s absence from the sidelines and the daily life that now feels emptier. “She loved the game, she loved her teammates, and she loved making people laugh,” she said, urging visitors to keep her daughter’s laughter alive in the space she helped create.
Coach Greg Visinho, who had guided Madelyn on the field, recalled her as “kind, humorous, and sassy,” noting that her impact extended far beyond her playing time. “She reminded us all what it means to play with heart,” he added, a sentiment echoed by the many young players who looked up to her.
The memorial’s message is clear: remember Madelyn for who she was, not for the tragedy that cut her life short. By embedding her story into the very ground where she chased a ball, the community hopes to keep her legacy alive for future generations of soccer players.
