Lehigh University’s field hockey team opened its 2026 season with a 2-0 shutout over Long Island University, giving coach Corey Mayer his first career victory.

Senior forward Gracen Brant accounted for both goals, striking early with an unassisted shot before adding a second in the final minutes to seal the win.

The match began with a 0-0 deadlock in the first quarter, as Ella Stephenson registered the only shot on goal, but the contest shifted dramatically in the fourth quarter when Lehigh outshot LIU 5-0, cementing the clean sheet.

Goalkeeper Kate Burgess made three saves, while the offensive load was shared among Brant and Georgia Reynolds, who each fired four shots, complemented by contributions from Jordyn Pepper, Carly Smith, Lauren Koomans, Kristina Johnson, Samantha Hillman and Ella Stephenson.
