A Dominant Start
The Garfield G-Men opened their season in spectacular fashion, routing the Crestwood Red Devils 48-13 at Jack Lambert Stadium on August 28. From the opening drive, the G-Men's offense surged ahead, capitalizing on a mere three-yard gain by Crestwood before the visitors could mount any response.
Quarterback Collin McGranahan was the catalyst, rushing for three touchdowns on his first three carries, including a 54-yard burst that set the tone early in the contest. His ability to find the end zone on the ground complemented a 71-yard pass to Nate Baczkowski, who also contributed with long kickoff returns that positioned the G-Men for quick scores.
The ground game was not limited to McGranahan; Sam Strahan broke off a 33-yard run for his own touchdown, while the team's balanced attack kept the Red Devils guessing. Kicker Hannah Timmons was flawless, converting six of seven extra-point attempts and adding stability to the scoring drive.
Defensively, the G-Men limited Crestwood to just three yards on their first play and consistently shut down the opposition's rushing attack. Coach Mike Moser praised the unit's effort but warned that there is still room for growth before the team faces its next Friday matchup.
The victory improves Garfield to 2-0 after a narrow 37-28 win over Warren JFK, while Crestwood falls to 0-2, still searching for its first points of the season. With a potent offense and a defense that continues to tighten, the G-Men look poised to make a deep run in the playoffs, provided they heed Moser's call for continued improvement.
