Morocco Unveils Grand Stade Hassan II, Set to Become World’s Largest Soccer Arena

A blend of futuristic design and Moroccan heritage, the new stadium will anchor the nation’s 2030 World Cup ambitions.

Morocco is embarking on an ambitious project that will redefine the landscape of international soccer.

At the heart of the plan is the Grand Stade Hassan II in Casablanca, a venue designed to hold 115,000 spectators and become the largest soccer-specific stadium in the world.

A Fusion of Futurism and Tradition

The design, led by global sports architecture firm Populous in partnership with Paris‑based Oualalou + Choi, marries cutting‑edge engineering with motifs drawn from Morocco’s cultural heritage. A sweeping aluminum lattice crowns the roof, echoing the patterns of the traditional ‘moussem’ festival, while 32 stairways and elevated gardens weave through the structure, creating a dynamic interplay of form and function.

Inside, the stadium accommodates a dedicated supporters’ zone of 29,500 general admission seats and five tiers of premium hospitality, ensuring a vibrant atmosphere for fans while offering modern comforts for corporate guests. The complex also houses training centers, aquatic facilities, hotels, retail outlets and leisure spaces that together aim to revitalize the surrounding El Mansouria district, located just 23 miles north of Casablanca.

Beyond its architectural splendor, the venue will serve as the permanent home for Morocco’s national team and the country’s premier clubs Raja CA and Wydad AC. Its long‑term use is central to Morocco’s bid to host the final match of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, a tournament that will also feature special matches in South America, underscoring the nation’s growing role on the global sporting stage.
