A teenage basketball game in Bergenfield turned into a scene of violence on Friday night when a planned attack unfolded on the court.
Two local youths, ages 16 and 17, had allegedly conspired to stab a fellow player, but the intended target stepped in and halted the assault before any serious harm could occur.
The victim, an 18‑year‑old from New Milford, was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center with non‑life‑threatening injuries and remained stable.
After the incident, the suspects fled the scene in a gray Nissan Altima, but police later located and detained them.
Arrest and Charges
The 16‑year‑old suspect was charged with aggravated assault, weapons possession and tampering with evidence, while the 17‑year‑old faced simple assault and conspiracy to commit aggravated assault.
Both juveniles have been ordered to remain in the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center as they await further court proceedings.
