Eastern Michigan University opened its 2026 season with a commanding 28‑17 victory over Sacramento State in the Mid‑American Conference showdown.
The Eagles surged to a 21‑10 lead by halftime, a margin not seen in a MAC opener since 2022, and never looked back.
Noah Kim’s Commanding Performance
Quarterback Noah Kim was the engine of the offense, throwing for 279 yards and two touchdowns while also adding a rushing score. His output ranked among the top performances of his Ypsilanti career, trailing only outings against Kentucky, Western Michigan and Miami.
Defensive Dominance
Linebacker Zach Mowchan anchored the defense with 14 tackles, including seven solo stops, helping limit the Hornets to just 270 total yards — a stark contrast to the 416.2 yards they averaged a year earlier.
The defense’s effort was complemented by rookie receiver Kozy Isaac, who capped his collegiate debut with a 40‑yard touchdown reception, and by Benson Prosper, whose seven catches for 81 yards nearly doubled his previous career high.
A Milestone Night for the Program
The win marked the 500th victory in Eastern Michigan’s football history, underscoring the program’s longevity. It also delivered the Eagles’ first home opener win since 2023 and improved their record to 1‑0 both overall and in conference play.
With the season just beginning, the early performance offers a promising glimpse of what the coaching staff and fans can expect, especially as the team prepares for upcoming road tests against California‑based opponents.
