Tarleton State Secures Inaugural Chancellor’s Cup
The Texans opened the 2026 campaign in spectacular fashion, defeating Prairie View A&M 49‑30 in a game that marked the program’s fifth consecutive season‑opening win and the third triumph over the Panthers in series history.
Quarterback Kaden Anderson was the catalyst, completing 15 of 21 passes for 224 yards and four touchdowns. His connection with wide receiver Marquis Willis, who recorded his third career 100‑yard game with 102 yards and two scores, helped the offense click early.
Running back Tylan Hines added a ground game that totaled 184 yards and two touchdowns, including a 40‑yard burst in the first quarter that extended the lead after the Panthers had briefly tied the contest.
Defensive Dominance and Record Crowd
The defense held Prairie View A&M to just 188 rushing yards while the Texans amassed 231 on the ground, underscoring a balanced attack. The effort was witnessed by 24,481 fans, a new attendance record for Memorial Stadium and a testament to the growing excitement around the program.
Looking ahead, Tarleton State will test its mettle against FBS competition next week, traveling to face Bowling Green on September 5, a matchup that promises to further gauge the team’s progress.
