Aaliyah Nye Takes Her Game to the Los Angeles Sparks After WNBA Draft

From Alabama records to a fresh start in Seattle, the former Crimson Tide star embraces a new chapter.

Aaliyah Nye, the former Alabama Crimson Tide standout, cleared waivers from the Atlanta Dream and signed with the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday, marking a swift move from the WNBA’s southern franchise to the West Coast.

A new chapter in Los Angeles

The 2025 WNBA Draft saw Nye selected 13th overall by the Las Vegas Aces, but the rights holder ultimately traded her to the Sparks, who were eager to add a proven three‑point shooter to their roster.

During her three seasons in Tuscaloosa, Nye helped the Crimson Tide reach back‑to‑back NCAA Tournaments and set the program’s all‑time record with 293 made three‑pointers. She capped her collegiate career by leading the SEC with 111 three‑pointers in the 2024‑25 season, a tally that ranked third nationally and included a single‑game record of nine treys against the Florida Gators.

Her professional debut with the Dream featured 19 appearances, 14 points, three rebounds and three assists in 43 minutes per game, numbers that hinted at the impact she could bring to a new environment.

The Sparks, currently sitting at 14‑25, will test their new acquisition when they travel to Climate Pledge Arena to face the Seattle Storm on Sunday, a matchup that could shape the team’s push toward the playoffs.
