DeMatha’s Dominance
DeMatha High School continued its remarkable run, stretching the longest winning streak in Maryland high school football history to 22 games with a 35‑14 triumph over Archbishop Spalding. The victory was highlighted by transfer quarterback AJ Grant, who accounted for three touchdowns and helped the team pull away in the second half.
Coach Bryce Bevill, in his first season at the helm, received the traditional game ball from Bill McGregor in recognition of the milestone win. The ceremony underscored the program’s deep-rooted culture of honoring achievement, even as the team prepares for the challenges of the remainder of the schedule.
Riverdale Baptist’s Rebuilding
Riverdale Baptist showed signs of progress after a 48‑6 drubbing earlier in the season, but a 22‑14 loss to an unranked opponent revealed lingering gaps. Senior playmakers Barrington Brady and Cameron Jefferson combined for two touchdown passes each, yet the defense could not hold the lead in the closing minutes.
The loss comes as the school reflects on a 2024 campaign guided by former coach Olandis Gary, who led the team to an undefeated season before his departure. The 2025 schedule now carries added weight, with forfeits and heavy scoring margins shaping the narrative of a program in transition.
