Season Opener Looms
Indiana University’s men’s soccer squad entered the new campaign ranked No. 14 in the nation, opening the season with a three‑game unbeaten streak that includes two clean‑sheet victories over Evansville and Butler.
The backbone of that early success has been a disciplined backline that has permitted only six shots on goal, featuring defenders Alex Barger, Josh Maher, Nick McHenry and Nolan Kinsella, while junior goalkeeper Michal Mroz has already logged five saves and shown commanding positioning.
Mroz’s emergence between the posts adds a layer of stability that coaches have praised, as the team looks to build on its early momentum.
A Clash of Styles
Across the state line, the Louisville Cardinals are bringing their own firepower to the matchup, with midfielder Giacomo Zizza and forward Andrés Escudero Martín combining for eight goals in three appearances and helping the club sit No. 14 in the ACC preseason coaches poll.
The game also carries a personal storyline, as Louisville’s head coach John Michael Hayden, a former Hoosier midfielder who wore the cream and crimson from 2002 to 2005, returns to Bloomington as a rival leader.
Scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Lynn Soccer Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky, the contest will be streamed live on the ACC Network, giving fans a chance to watch the defensive duel unfold.
