A Renewed Rivalry
The Golden Eagles are set to welcome the Wisconsin Badgers to Milwaukee on Monday, renewing a rivalry that stands as the most contested in program history. With the Badgers ranked No. 23 in the nation, the matchup promises a test of depth and experience for Marquette.
At the center of Marquette’s early-season narrative is freshman forward Tomiwa Adewumi, who has already etched his name into the school’s recent record books. The Pittsburgh native found the back of the net four times in his first three collegiate appearances, a feat not achieved by a Marquette player in at least two decades.
Adewumi’s impact extends beyond scoring; his nine total points place him among the nation’s top ten in points, goals per game and points per game, positioning him third in the country for goals per game at 1.33.
Midfield dynamo Mateo Stoka has complemented Adewumi’s attack with five assists in just three games of the 2026 campaign, a tally that nears his 2025 total of four and has vaulted him to fifth in the national assists rankings.
Together with fellow midfielder Mads Konrad Horgøien, the trio has accounted for 20 of Marquette’s 25 points in the opening three matches, underscoring a balanced offensive threat.
International Influence
The roster overhaul reflects a strategic push toward global talent, with 15 new recruits, four transfers and 11 true freshmen joining the squad. Among them are athletes from Norway, Sweden, Canada, Australia, Brazil and England, bringing the total number of international players to 11.
This diversification has not only enriched the team’s cultural fabric but also contributed to a remarkable non‑conference run, as Marquette has avoided defeat in its last 11 such contests, the most recent loss coming in 2024 against Wisconsin and Northwestern.
Head Coach David Korn, now in his second season, has guided the team through this transitional period, emphasizing continuity in performance while integrating fresh faces into a cohesive unit.
The upcoming games against Wisconsin in Madison and a home matchup with Northwestern will serve as further gauges of the Golden Eagles’ progress as they look to sustain their early-season momentum.
