The UMBC women's soccer team played to a 0‑0 draw against the unbeaten Delaware Blue Hens on Sunday in Newark, Delaware, ending a four‑game losing streak and securing the program's first road victory since 2002.
A Defensive Masterclass
Goalkeeper Amara Codd anchored the Retrievers' backline, turning away nine shots and delivering a series of clutch saves, including a pivotal stop on a free‑kick by Olivia Bley in the first half and a late denial of Ava Sallee's third attempt.
Head coach Rick Stainton praised the squad's effort, highlighting the teamwork and growth he observed throughout the match.
Offensively, senior midfielder Regan Rubin generated three chances, while freshman forward Brooke Clagett added two shots, and sophomore Nia Hudson's late effort was blocked by Delaware's goalkeeper Sophie Hall in the 86th minute.
Despite early pressure, the Retrievers were denied by Hall's fingertip save on Rubin's 21st‑minute strike and later saw a corner kick thwarted by Codd and the defense. Free‑kick opportunities in the 54th and 74th minutes missed the target, but the defense held firm.
The Retrievers will return home to host Towson on Thursday at 7:00 p.m., looking to build on the defensive foundation established in Delaware.
