The West Virginia University women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to four games on Sunday, defeating Army 2-1 at Malek Stadium in West Point, New York.
Redshirt senior forward Saige Wimes delivered the match‑winner in the 86th minute, capping a sequence that began when Abbey Olexa opened the scoring in the 67th minute.
Olexa's left‑footed strike at the 67:40 mark gave West Virginia a 1‑0 lead, but the Black Knights answered just two minutes later to level the contest.
The Mountaineers controlled the tempo, outshooting Army 20‑13 overall and 8‑3 on goal, with sophomore Sophia Nickel contributing a point in each game this season.
A Late Surge at Malek Stadium
The victory not only secured a 2‑0 all‑time edge over Army but also marked the program's strongest start since 2006, when the team opened with a seven‑game winning streak.
West Virginia will next host in‑state rival Marshall on Sunday, September 6, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown, as part of the annual Alumni Game and a Gold Rush celebration that will welcome more than 50 former players.
