A Late Equaliser Earns Point for Carroll
The Carroll College Women's Soccer team fought back from a halftime deficit to force a 1-1 draw with St. Thomas University on Saturday at AutoNation Field in Miami Gardens, Florida.
St. Thomas had taken the lead in the 72nd minute when Mariana Sanchez finished a move set up by Hanah Gonzalez, but the Fighting Saints answered quickly. Eight minutes later, Makayla Schnabel struck her first collegiate goal, tapping in a pass from Bailey Koster to level the score.
Goalkeeper Maria Ackerman was busy throughout the contest, making eight saves, including two that proved crucial in the closing stages. Her performance helped keep the Saints within striking distance despite being outshot 15-10 overall.
Rachel McAllister was the most active attacker for Carroll, generating a team-high five attempts, one of which clipped the post in the 40th minute. Her persistence paid off in the final minutes when Schnabel's strike sparked a surge of momentum.
Looking Ahead
The Saints will return to action with home matches against Arizona Christian on September 5 and Ottawa (Ariz.) on September 7. Both games present opportunities to build on the resilience shown against St. Thomas.
Coach and players alike praised the team's composure after falling behind, noting that the late equaliser reflects the squad's growing confidence as the season progresses.
