Adam Schaban, Liam May and Andrew Miles lead the offense as freshman goalkeeper Filip Versterre posts a clean sheet

Season Opener Shutout

Cornell Men's Soccer opened its season with a 3-0 victory over Marist at Tenney Stadium, improving to 1-0-0 and extending its unbeaten streak against the Red Foxes to four meetings.

Senior forward Adam Schaban struck first in the 21st minute, curling a precise shot past the Marist goalkeeper to put the Big Red on the board.

Liam May doubled the lead early in the second half, capitalizing on a scramble in front of goal to score his first of two goals on the night.

May added a second goal in the 64th minute, finishing a rebound after the initial shot was blocked, sealing the 3-0 advantage.

Andrew Miles capped the scoring in the 85th minute, tapping in his first collegiate goal after a referee miscommunication left the ball at his feet.

Freshman goalkeeper Filip Versterre made his collegiate debut and kept a clean sheet, handling two shots on target and preserving the shutout.

Head coach John Smith recorded his 90th career win, one shy of the program’s all-time record, while the team’s 599th overall victory puts the program near a historic milestone in non-conference play.

Cornell will next travel to face UC Santa Barbara on September 4 at Berman Field, hoping to continue its early-season momentum.
