Rutgers’ women’s soccer squad opened its home schedule with a 3‑3 stalemate against Providence, a result that left the Scarlet Knights with a single point in the early season standings.
Early offensive burst fuels Scarlet Knights
The team surged ahead quickly, with Ashley Baran finding the net within the first two minutes and Reilly McGlinn extending the lead after a precise through ball from Lilia Calvert. Gabriela Gil also contributed by setting up a goal down the right wing, showcasing the attack’s early fluidity.
Goalkeeper Olivia Bodmer was busy, making nine saves and reaching 231 career stops, one shy of the program’s top‑ten list, keeping the lead intact for much of the contest.
Providence’s late rally
Providence answered back in the latter stages of the first half and again after the break, striking twice within a minute from a corner and a free‑kick to level the match. Their late surge forced the game into a frantic finish.
The final four minutes produced no further goals, sealing a 3‑3 draw that ended with both sides sharing the points.
Rutgers will look to bounce back when they host Princeton at Yurcak Field on Thursday at 5 p.m., with the game offered free admission to fans.
