Philadelphia’s Black Sheep Pub Closes After Fires, Community Rallies with $28,000 Fundraiser

The Manchester United supporters’ hub in Rittenhouse will reopen in two months as fans and a GoFundMe campaign raise money for a rebuild.

The Black Sheep Pub, a cornerstone of Philadelphia’s soccer‑watching scene and the official home of the city’s Manchester United supporters’ club, has been forced to close its doors indefinitely after a series of fires.

For years the dimly lit tavern on the 2000 block of Walnut Street served as a gathering place where fans in red and white could cheer every match, share chants, and feel the pulse of the Red Devils across the Atlantic.

Pub owner Michael “Mick” O’Leary announced that the establishment will remain shuttered until at least the end of the summer, citing extensive damage and the need for a complete rebuild.

In a bid to accelerate the recovery, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched, aiming to raise $28,000 to cover reconstruction costs; as of today the effort has already surpassed $21,000 in donations.

The campaign’s momentum was bolstered when Roger Bennett, co‑host of the popular Men in Blazers podcast, posted a video urging fans worldwide to contribute and help restore the venue that has become a cultural touchstone.

Organizers say the target reopening date is two months from now, a timeline that will depend on the speed of repairs and the continued generosity of the community that has long considered the pub more than just a bar.
