Southern Illinois University’s women’s soccer team delivered a stunning 8‑0 victory over Alabama A&M on Tuesday, establishing a new school record for goals in a single match.
From the opening whistle the Salukis imposed their will, with Dana Nadda opening the scoring in the fourth minute before a flurry of strikes from Celina Pinelli and Victoria Hassan put the hosts comfortably ahead by halftime.
Warner’s Hat Trick and the Record‑Breaking Surge
Penny Warner became the first Saluki to notch a hat trick since Liz Brechtel in November 2019, scoring three goals in just four minutes and ten seconds. Her burst turned a 4‑0 lead into a 7‑0 advantage before Edin Abougzir capped the night with an unassisted strike in the 87th minute.
Nao Katamoto orchestrated the attack with four assists, while the defense held firm throughout, preserving a clean sheet against a resilient Alabama A&M side.
The Salukis will look to carry this momentum into their next contest, a Thursday showdown with Lindenwood at the Lew Hartzog Track & Field Complex, kicking off at 6 p.m.
Coach praised the squad’s execution, noting that the performance reflects the team’s growing confidence and depth as they head into the latter part of the season.
