The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s football program, known as the Warhawks, are preparing for the 2026 campaign after a solid 8-3 finish in 2025 that ended with a narrow playoff defeat to DePauw University.
Head coach Jace Rindahl has framed the upcoming season as a chance to translate offseason work into on-field dominance, emphasizing health, toughness and explosiveness as the three pillars of his vision.
Rindahl said the staff has overhauled conditioning programs, noting that defensive back Carter Seesa and lineman Mason McNeil have already reported measurable gains from the new routines.
Offseason Transformations
The offseason has been marked by both physical and tactical transformations. New workout regimens have been introduced across the squad, with an emphasis on speed and injury prevention. The coaching staff has also experimented with hybrid linebacker formations, seeking to exploit mismatches against spread offenses.
A significant shift on defense involves moving Karsten Libby from an outside to an inside linebacker spot, a change intended to bolster the front seven and create more versatile pass-rushing packages.
At quarterback, the competition remains open. Transfer Cole Warren, who spent last year at UW-Oshkosh, is among the candidates vying for the starting role as the team evaluates options before the September 5 opener.
The Warhawks will test their revamped roster against Carleton College in the season’s first game, a matchup that will serve as an early gauge of the adjustments made during the offseason.
Looking Ahead
Beyond the X’s and O’s, players speak of a collective hunger to improve on the 2025 showing, hoping to extend their campaign beyond the second round and contend for a conference title. Coach Rindahl has stressed that the team’s success will hinge on how quickly the new roles integrate and how effectively the offense can capitalize on the enhanced defensive front.
