A rocky start to the season
The Tar Heels opened their 53rd season with a 3‑2 defeat to Iowa in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, a result that dropped them to 0‑2 in a season‑opening weekend for the first time since 2021.
Despite building leads twice in the first half, UNC could not hold the advantage as Iowa struck twice in the third quarter, turning a tight contest into a decisive win.
The loss served as a preseason benchmark for a squad that returns fourteen veterans and welcomes eight new recruits, giving the coaching staff a clear picture of the roster’s early chemistry.
Looking ahead
The team will regroup for the next matchup, aiming to convert early offensive bursts into a more consistent performance and avoid another winless opening weekend.
