Season Opener Highlights
Monte Vista Christian (MVC) kicked off the season on a high note, defeating Seaside High 16-8 in a tightly contested matchup that showcased both offensive spark and defensive grit.
The offense came alive early, with junior Reece Walker breaking through for a six‑yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter, followed by Massimo Melo’s 27‑yard field goal that extended the lead.
Midway through the game, Zach Moran caught a seven‑yard pass from Evan Vessey, adding another score that underscored the team’s balanced attack.
Defensively, the Mustangs imposed their will, as Rocco DeBernardo’s sack and Jordan Ramirez’s interception halted Seaside’s momentum and kept the visitors at bay.
Head coach Joe Sturdivant lauded the squad’s effort, noting that while mistakes were made, the team’s toughness and resilience were evident throughout.
Looking ahead, MVC will travel to face Modesto Christian this Friday at 7 p.m., aiming to build on the early victory and carry the momentum into the next contest.
