A busy week for the Great Danes
The University at Albany women's soccer team is back on its home turf this week, with two matches scheduled at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. On Thursday, September 3, the Great Danes will host Stonehill at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Sunday showdown against Le Moyne at 2:00 p.m. Both games promise to be pivotal early‑season tests for the program.
UAlbany’s attack is anchored by senior forward Kiara Levac and sophomore midfielder Oluchi Njoku, each of whom has already contributed two points from a single goal this season. Goalkeeper Claudia Volino, who has started all four contests, boasts 20 saves and a .679 save percentage, providing stability between the posts.
Stonehill arrives after a 1‑1 draw with Vermont on August 30 and will look to build on the performances of Kayla Cassidy, Holley MacClellan and Annie Renz, who have combined for three points from one goal and one assist. Goalkeeper Jenna Hamel has logged every minute of the 2026 campaign, posting a .741 save percentage.
Le Moyne’s offense is led by Emma Sousa, who tops the team with four points from two goals, while sophomore keeper Mikayla McPheron has started all six games and maintains a .755 save percentage. The Dolphins will be looking to avenge last season’s loss to the Great Danes.
Historically, the series between UAlbany and Le Moyne favors the Great Danes, who secured a victory in their first meeting last year. As the team prepares for the upcoming fixtures, head coach hopes the early‑season momentum will translate into a strong finish.
