The NCAA Women’s Ice Hockey Committee announced a strategic reshuffle of the 2027 Women’s Frozen Four, moving the tournament’s core dates to March 21‑23 in Duluth, Minnesota.
Semifinals will now be contested on Sunday, March 21, at the AMSOIL Arena, with the championship game following on Tuesday, March 23, in the same venue.
Aligning with ESPN’s Broadcast Strategy
The adjustment was driven by a desire to showcase the entire tournament on ESPN’s linear channels, ensuring that all three games reach a national audience.
Brittany Kane, chair of the NCAA Women’s Ice Hockey Committee and senior associate director at Boston University, highlighted the move as a pivotal step toward elevating the sport’s profile among fans and student‑athletes.
Kane expressed gratitude to the University of Minnesota Duluth for its hospitality and to ESPN for its continued support of women’s ice hockey.
The original schedule had placed the semifinals on March 19 and the championship on March 21, a configuration that limited simultaneous broadcast opportunities.
By consolidating the games into a tighter window, the committee aims to amplify the tournament’s growth, attract greater media attention, and foster increased engagement across the sport.
