Saluki Women's Basketball Secures Commitment from Yaiza Paredes Diaz
Southern Illinois University announced the addition of Yaiza Paredes Diaz, a junior transfer who will join the women's basketball program after spending two seasons at Eastern Wyoming College.
Coach Kelly Bond-White praised the new forward, describing her as a player who brings toughness, competitiveness and versatility to the frontcourt.
Paredes Diaz averaged 12.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game last season, numbers that reflect her ability to contribute on both ends of the floor.
She posted a season‑high 22 points against Northwest College and grabbed 13 rebounds in a game versus Central Wyoming College, underscoring her capacity to dominate in the paint.
Beyond her athletic contributions, the forward will pursue a degree in Civil Engineering at Southern Illinois University, blending academic ambition with on‑court impact.
The Salukis hope the new frontcourt piece will strengthen their interior defense and provide additional scoring options as they aim for a competitive season in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Coach Bond-White emphasized that Paredes Diaz's size and positional flexibility will allow the team to experiment with different lineups, giving the Salukis depth and adaptability.
The recruitment also highlights the university's commitment to developing student‑athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the hardwood, a narrative that resonates with fans and alumni alike.
