The University of Tennessee Volunteers will wear a special helmet decal featuring a butterfly from Dollywood during the 2026 college football season, a tribute to native daughter Dolly Parton, who passed away at 80 last week.
Coach Josh Heupel announced the honor, emphasizing that the decal is more than a visual nod — it reflects Parton’s profound impact on the state, her philanthropic work, and the deep affection she inspired across Tennessee.
A Butterfly Emblem
Parton, who grew up in Sevierville just 30 miles east of Knoxville, earned the nickname "queen of East Tennessee" for her unwavering pride in her roots. Her legacy includes the Imagination Library, a program that has mailed over 150 million free books to children worldwide.
Beyond her musical achievements, Parton’s connection to the University of Tennessee was highlighted when she performed at Neyland Stadium in 2023, delivering a rendition of "Rocky Top" alongside former NFL star Peyton Manning.
The butterfly decal will serve as a reminder of Parton’s contributions to education, health, and community development, reinforcing the Volunteers’ commitment to honoring figures who embody the spirit of the state.
The 2026 season will open with a matchup against Furman University, marking the first opportunity for fans to see the tribute in action on the field.
