Longtime Reynoldsburg Coach Andrew Moore Steps Down Amid Health Battle

After guiding the Raiders to a historic state tournament run, Moore leaves coaching to focus on recovery while the school appoints Nicole Gardner as his successor.

Andrew Moore, who spent six seasons leading Reynoldsburg’s boys basketball program, announced his resignation in mid‑August, citing health concerns that have left him without the energy required to continue coaching at the high level he demands of himself and his team.

During his tenure the Raiders achieved their first-ever state tournament appearance, compiled a 104‑46 overall record, captured back‑to‑back Division I district titles and finished the 2023‑24 season with a 26‑2 mark before falling to Olentangy Orange in the state final.

A Legacy of Success

Moore’s impact extended beyond wins and losses. He previously served as assistant athletic director for four years and athletic director for two, and he was inducted into the Muskingum Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999 after a distinguished playing career that earned him first‑team All‑American honors and Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 1991‑92.

The resignation came just before the OHSAA’s no‑contact period ended, allowing small‑group practices to resume on September 1. The school swiftly appointed Nicole Gardner to succeed Moore, a move welcomed by many who view her as a natural continuation of the program’s leadership.

Beyond the gym, Moore will begin teaching an online credit‑recovery course at Reynoldsburg’s Summit campus and has spoken with former players who understand his decision and respect the legacy he leaves behind.

Prior to his Ohio role, Moore coached for six seasons with the Air Force men’s team, adding a distinctive national perspective to his coaching résumé before returning to his home state to build a lasting program at Reynoldsburg.
