Patriot League Recognizes BU’s Emerging Stars
The Patriot League’s inaugural weekly awards spotlighted three BU standouts, underscoring the team’s rapid ascent in its first season of conference play.
Lucy Johnson burst onto the scene by scoring the first four goals of her collegiate career, twice opening the scoring in victories over Merrimack and in a narrow loss at Providence, demonstrating a potency that helped the Terriers claim a 7‑2 win and push the game to a 3‑2 finish.
Alex Purcell, already a two‑time Rookie of the Week from the previous season, was recognized for his defensive mastery, dishing out three assists — including crisp passes to Bella Bergner and a long ball that set up Johnson’s opening goal against Providence — while anchoring a back line that limited opponents.
Freshman Jenna Park made an immediate impact by opening her collegiate debut with a 1‑0 lead against Merrimack and later assisting on Johnson’s second tally, a sequence that propelled BU to a 2‑1 advantage before the final whistle.
The Terriers are set to return to action on Friday, September 4, when they host No. 15 Massachusetts at 4 p.m., aiming to translate early-season momentum into a strong start to the schedule.
