Senior Day Dominance
Ohio University rolled past Mercyhurst University Lakers 6-0 on senior day, a shutout that showcased a balanced attack and a defense that held firm despite the opponent's early-season struggles.
The Bobcats honored a group of seniors that included Melia Peer, Jaimason Brooker, Anna Burchett, Kate Robinson and Rylee Mensel, while goalkeepers Bella Wyatt and Ayla Rammel made key saves to preserve the clean sheet.
Scoring was spread across the lineup, with Ella Deevers opening the tally after a quick offensive stint assisted by Anna Burchett and Kate Robinson, followed by Camille Francis adding her second goal of the season, Iro Fakinou contributing the third, and Kendal Erbach striking from a corner kick for the fourth.
A missed penalty saw Peer showcase fancy footwork before the team’s fifth goal was initially credited to Robinson, only to be overturned for offside; Brooker later avenged the reversal with his own strike.
Sophomore midfielder Noelle Miriello and forward Kiley Bruce capped the scoring in the second half, sealing a 6-0 result that underscored Ohio’s depth.
Head coach Aaron Rodgers praised the seniors for their service and impact, noting defensive lapses that mirror a previous contest against Clemson and emphasizing the need for improvement as the schedule turns to the University of Pittsburgh on Thursday and Indiana University on Sunday.
Despite the loss, Mercyhurst’s first win of the season remains elusive, but the Bobcats leave the match with momentum heading into a demanding home stretch.
