Colt Fowler, a 6‑foot‑2 point guard who dominated the 2025‑26 season at Byrnes High School, has officially committed to the College of Charleston, bringing his high‑octane scoring and playmaking to the Cougars' roster.
Fowler averaged an impressive 24.3 points, 10.8 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game, shooting 48 percent from the field, 37 percent from three‑point range and a stellar 86.4 percent from the free‑throw line, numbers that helped him earn the 2025‑26 South Carolina Class 5A player of the year award from the South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association.
His family ties run deep in the Byrnes program; his father Layne Fowler served as the boys’ head coach while his mother Missy Fowler led the girls’ team, giving Colt a lifelong immersion in basketball from an early age.
Recruiting analysts placed Fowler among the nation’s top 40 point guards and rated him a three‑star prospect by 247Sports, yet he chose the College of Charleston despite not being among the nine scholarship programs listed on his profile, a decision influenced by a power‑conference offer from South Carolina and interest from schools such as Charleston Southern, Florida Gulf Coast, Georgia Southern, Oral Roberts, Presbyterian, UNC Greensboro, Weber State, and Wofford.
On the court, Fowler’s impact was evident in marquee performances, including a 33‑point, 15‑assist, 10‑rebound outing against Eastside and a 40‑point, 10‑assist showing versus Wade Hampton, while his leadership helped the Bengals finish the season with a 73‑15 record, amassing 1,474 career points and 777 assists.
In the 5A state semifinals, he posted 24 points and 14 assists in a hard‑fought loss to Ridge View, underscoring his ability to elevate his game when the stakes are highest.
A New Chapter for the Cougars
The addition of Fowler signals a strategic push by the Cougars to recruit a high‑profile talent capable of immediate impact, and fans can anticipate an exciting season ahead as the team integrates his dynamic skill set into its offensive scheme.
