Cam Mitchell, a 25‑year‑old forward from Stony Plain, Alberta, has re‑signed with the Wichita Thunder for the 2026‑27 season, marking a continued commitment to the ECHL franchise that first introduced him to professional hockey.
After four seasons at the University of Nebraska‑Omaha, where he amassed 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) in 94 games and earned alternate‑captain honors in his senior year, Mitchell brings a blend of college experience and junior‑league polish to the Thunder’s lineup.
Career Highlights
His five‑year junior career with the Omaha Lancers saw him collect 57 points (18 goals, 39 assists) over 111 games, a body of work that culminated in his first professional point on March 24 against the Kansas City team.
The Wichita Thunder, an ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s San Jose Sharks and AHL’s San Jose Barracuda, will benefit from Mitchell’s versatility and leadership as he steps into his second full season with the club.
With his proven knack for contributing on the scoresheet and his familiarity with the league’s pace, Mitchell is expected to play a key role in the Thunder’s push for a playoff berth in the coming year.
